CASINO RV VILLAGE

Sunday 23 January 2011 - Today is a rest day with Happy Golf in the morning, 8 ball pool in the afternoon and Happy hour in the evening.  Barry went to Pool to have a look and stayed to play, he enjoyed it so much.  The Happy hour was practically a non event but we had a good laugh anyway.

Monday 24 January 2011 - The week starts and so does the activities - I did Water Aerobics at the pool in the afternoon and we went to happy hour in the evening.  Water Aerobics is very good.

Tuesday 25 January 2011 - What a busy day - Men's shed and Crafty Travellers in the morning, we went our separate ways but neither stayed very long.  8 ball pool and water aerobics in the afternoon and happy hour in the evening.

Wednesday 26 January 2011 - AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS - WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY - it all started at 9.00 with registration and ended at about 6.00pm and was non stop all day.  We started with Disc Bowls - then morning tea of Lamingtons, piklets with jam and cream, Anzac biscuits and Vegemite and cheese sandwiches with tea and coffee, then I went off to water aerobics, we played carpet bowls and 8 ball pool (yes I played) and then lunch.  This consisted of Pie, mushy peas and mashed potato OR a pie floater which is a pie turned upside down in pea soup.  Barry had both I had the former, tea and coffee.

After lunch we played Toss the Thong, and guess what I won thanks to my days of squash and what did I win - a pair of thongs of course.  They fit Barry well and have the Australian flag on them.  Then washed toss - it is square box with a 7.5cm pipe in the centre of it.  If you throw the washer into the centre you get three points, in the box 2 points and on the ground within a 30 cm area you get 1 point.  My team and I won the first game but beaten in the second game.  Barry team did not win any games.  At 3.00pm the entertainment started with Big Hal singing with a sound disc backing - he was very entertaining, we all sang along, danced to the music and had a great time for 3 hours.  $2000.00 was RAISED FOR THE QUEENSLAND FLOOD APPEAL.

WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY

Thursday 27 January 2011 - and so the activities commence again.  Today I went to have a look at Clogging/Appalachian Mountain Tap Dancing and stayed and had a lot of fun bringing back childhood memories, Barry and I both played 8 ball pool in the afternoon and of course - water aerobics for us both ending with Happy Hour.

Friday 28 January 2011 - I think I am going crazy - today I went to have a look at line dancing and of course stayed and had loads of fun, Barry and I walked into Casino and had some lunch and did a little shopping at Aldi then a walk up to Woolworths and we found there was a bus that we could catch back to the village.  We did this and asked for a timetable so from now on, if Barry is with me, we will catch the bus to and from the town centre.  Water aerobics and happy hour and collapse.

CASINO

20 January 2011 - Today we left Tingalpa and Brisbane to come back to Casino for two weeeks.  We went for a big shop before we left Brisbane and had our blood tests, in the end we were very late and arrived at about 7.30.

21 January - What a fantastic place this is, today I joined in with the aqua aerobics class and really enjoyed it.  They are a good bunch of people.  Then off to Happy Hour.  We set up and had a quiet day, I had an hour walk around the village after tea and slept like a log.

22 January - We have been busy for most of the day.  I washed and what a big wash it was.  We attended the village byo BBQ lunch at the BBQ area, the people are so friendly and nice and make you feel instantly welcome and one of the group.  I met a lady at aerobics the day before and we arranged to go to the pool at 3.00 to do a class by ourselves as there are no classes over the weekend, Barry came along with me and joined us, after the pool we went to Happy hour but not many there today.  Barrys foot is much better today and he walked without the walking stick.  After tea I went for a village walk again in the opposite direction.  It was lovely out at that time of day and I enjoy the walk.

That is it for now, I am up to date.

Casino RV Leisure Resort

Wednesday 29 December 2010

After a beautiful drive with lots of green countryside we arrived at Casino and drove straight to the Leisure Centre.  What a place to stay, it is costing us $20 per night or $120 per week so we  get the 7th night free.  It has plenty of activities but unfortunately they were not operating over the Christmas period and was to start again the following monday.  There is a swimming pool, a large club house a BBQ area with two large BBQ's, a microwave, fridge lot of tables and chairs and a camp oven pit all under cover.  There is a large shed called the Green hangout with craft on one end and a library.  The rest of the building is a large club house for games such as carpet bowls, movies, 8 ball pool, tabletennis and social cards.  A large garage called the mens shed (we do not know what is in that but will find out) a radio shack, art room, internet room, first aid hut and a disc bowls area and a nursery.

For camping there are powered sites with hedges separating each site, powered sights with ensuites, dump points at the amenity blocks (3) and a large dump site near the entrance.  They have drive through sites, a mini rally site  and a bush camping area.

There are a lot of permanent homes in the back area and they are very nice indeed most have two carports one large enough to house the biggest motor home and another for a car.

The social life here is fantastic with a happy hour in the BBQ area each afternoon, on Saturday at lunch there is a byo BBQ for all to attend.  On monday there is Patchwork and quilting, self help art group,  aqua aerobics and happy hour.  Tuesday there is mens shed session, crafty travellers - chatter and craft social group, chatter and craft (second session), 8 ball pool, water aerobics and happy hour.  Wednesday, happy golf, line dancing, social cards, water aerobics and happy hour.  Thursday self help art group, crafty travellers, clogging-Appalachian mountain tap dancing and line dancing, craft, 8 ball pool, water aerobics, happy hour.  Friday afternoon, water aerobics and happy hour.  Saturday happy golf and comunity BBQ byo and happy hour.  Sunday happy, golf, 8 ball pool, happy hour.

As you can tell there is a lot to do and you are kept busy, people also play bowls at the local RSM Club.

It is a fantastic place, very social and the people are all so nice.

Next door to us was a lovely couple  Marnie and Gail and we have become good friends with these two.  They live in Brisbane and we will spend some time with them when we are there.

29 December - the pool and happy hour, walked around the village and met our neighbours at happy hour.

30 December - We went into Casion with Marnie and Gail today and did some shopping, had a drink hotel near to the village and came back.  Happy hour again.

31 December - Barrys birthday and New Years Eve, there were celebrations at the BBQ area which we went to and happy a fantastic night.

The rest of the say was fairly quiet with visits to the pool, rest, reading and happy hours.

WE ARE MOST DEFINATELY COMING BACK

Glen Innes

Monday 27 December - we had a lovely drive from Moree to Warialda where we stopped at the tourist information to see a display of rocks and shells from the surrounding area, it was a pretty little town.

We drove on to Inverell - stopping for lunch and a walk around the town centre very attractive town with quite a large shopping centre.

On then to Glen Innes and out to stay at a free camp at Beardy Creek Heritage Park - it would have been a nice park if not for the rain damage.  We could not drive into the main camping area so stayed outside the gate, it was close to the road but we did not notice the traffic during the night (probably no traffic).

Tuesday 28 December - We drove to Tenterfield and found that the road to Warwick was flooded and the road up through Kyogle to Woodenbong was closed due to flooding.

The only was to go was to Casino so we rang the Casino Village RV Resort.

MOREE

Wednesday 22 December 2010 - We arrived at Moree fairly late in the day and found a fantastic little caravan park call Mehi River Caravan Park, it had 2 Thermal spar pools one hot and one cold and a swimming pool also thermal.  We spent time each day in the hot pool and I dunked in and out of the cold one.

This little park had paintings as signs for everything, the toilet block was beautifully decorated for Christmas, there were (I think) ceramic lizards, frogs etc. on the walls of the block and a camp get together area.  The managers were very nice and helpful and I cannot recommend this caravan park strongly enough for anyone visiting Moree.  It was not an expensive park at $25 per night and 10 minutes walk from town.

Thursday 23 December - we walked into town to have a look around and buy a few forgotten essentials.

Friday 24 December - cooking day - made a boiled pineapple fruit cake and guess what - we ran out of gas - however the cake finished cooking in the warmth of the oven.  Barry had said when we had the bottle filled at Fennell Bay that is did not feel full and it wasn't.  Sooooooo  Barry put the bottle on the trolley and set off to the office.  They did not have gas or swap bottles so he walked to the main road and the nearest service station and then back again with a full bottle.  THANK GOD FOR THE TROLLEY.  With gas once again, I glazed a small piece of ham and it was beautiful - cooked a chicken stuffed with cranberry and macadamias.

Saturday 25 December - Christmas Day - the day started with the usual Ham and Eggs for breakfast with orange juice and Champagne - I put on a small piece of roast loin pork with the most beautiful crackling, baked potato, sweet potato, beans and glazed carrots - what a delicious dinner, we had a small Christmas pudding and brandy custard but we were too full to eat it.   Christmas tea - too full to eat it and had some fruit.

Brian rang early in the morning so we had a long conversation with them while Mackenzie and Ava opened their presents.  We spent a lot of the day on the computer on Skype with David, Theresa and the children which was wonderful as we were almost there with them.  We went twice to the pool and back on Skype with the family again at tea time.  Even though we were far away from our family we had a wonderful day with them all.  Mark and Dennis were are Davids as well so they were chatting with us.

Sunday 26 December - washing day, rest day and pool day and very little to eat (left overs).

Monday 27 - left Moree for Glen Innes.

NARRABRI

Monday 20 December 2010.  Today we drove out to the Australian Radio Telescope outside of Narrabri, we could see how badly the district was affected by the rain as the road had water over it in a number of spots and the road was full of potholes.

There is a bank of five telescopes on lines and they were spread out so we only actually saw one up close.  There was an interesting video on Radio Telescopes and Nassa which we enjoyed.  We left there and headed for the town lake, it is a picnic and camping area but was very wet so we did not stay there long before we drove back into town.

Tuesday 21st December - we walked down into town again and mooched around the shops.

Sawn Rocks Mt Kaputar National Par
Vertical Octagonal Vertical Rocks in creek bed
Broken pillars in the creek bed

Wednesday 22nd December - Today we left Narrabri after a pleasant stay at the caravan and went shopping before driving out to Sawn Rocks.  The hillside consisted of a formation of Octagonal Vertical pillars caused by volcanic eruptions referred to the pipe organ and is quite spectacular.  Over the centuries some of these pillars have broken off and lay in the stream bed below.

From there we drove to Moree.
